So, we made another trip and this time we were very lucky with the weather and the temperature.
To go up the mountain by cable car, a return journey sets you back 24€ for an adult in the summer months and it’s worth every cent. Or should I say every Euro!. The cable car operates every half hour from 8:30 in the morning till 5:00 in the afternoon – weather permitting. Alternatively, you my choose to hike up and quite a few people do, we, however, opted for the cable car 🙂
At the top of the mountain, you have breath taken views all around. When we visited, there was still snow in the highest peaks and while I stayed at the restaurant sipping a glass of wine in the sunshine, Mr Oz, being the adventurer that he is, went to climb the highest peak he could find. I chose not to look – it scared the jeepers out of me! The restaurant offers local dishes at a reasonable price taking all things into account and you can enjoy your meal inside or outside in the sun terrace.
The mountain stands a majestic 2244m high and if you wish to get married in high places, this can be arranged here. The Bergwelt Karwendel is Germany’s highest nature information centre and has been shaped like a giant telescope. Quite ingenious, I think!
We spent the best part of the day there admiring two things. Nature for being so utterly wonderful and mankind for being so inspirational and creative. Without their spirits most of us would never get to see these majestic views. I salute mankind!
