My grand-daughter turned two recently and had what ended up as a ‘No’ Birthday Party!
We’ve noticed that before the tender age of two she hasn’t liked crowds much at all, preferring one on one social activities
The day started with her refusal to get dressed except for a t-shirt and nappy. No shoes either! She could smell a rat, there was no denying!
As guests arrived, she backed away into a corner and only wanted ‘Mummy’ or ‘Daddy’. Presents offered to her were refused with a definite, ‘no presents’ response and a pushing away of the offending gifts.
When it came to the cake ritual and saw everyone looking at her, she dived out of her Daddy’s arms and was caught just in time before she hit the floor. She was chased and caught to be offered a piece of her birthday cake. Begrudgingly, she had a taste of her choc/mint cake only to spit it out with an astonishing ‘toothpaste’ remark which cracked Mum & Dad up. Fresh cream however, was happily accepted in its place!
So, Mummy and Daddy learned a lesson that day, there’ll be NO more birthday parties for a while 🙂
