HDP: Travelling Around Australia, Week 21

We’ve spent this week in Broome and the temperature has been nothing but constantly HOT. The scary thing is, we’re going further north which means it’s going to get HOTTER!!!

Broome is famous for its pearls and just about everywhere you go, there are pearls for sale! Judging by the amount of women buying them, it seems that diamonds are not the only best friend a girl can have! Of course, we added a little boost to their economy – just to help them out 🙂

Cable Beach is famous for its camel rides at various times of the day, with the favourite time being sunset. We took a walk along this beautiful beach in time to catch some them.

While we were here, we encountered a natural phenomenon know as ‘Stairway to the Moon’ which is caused by the rising of the full moon reflecting off the mudflats in Roebuck Bay creating the illusion of a staircase reaching to the moon. Due to a number of issues with my camera,  I wasn’t able to do it justice. However, Mr Oz came up with a cracker! The photo below is his!

Undoubtedly, the high-light of Broome has been a full day trip to the Horizontal Falls. The horizontal falls are created by the huge tidal movement in the area moving through gaps in the McLarty Range.

It was an early start with a pick up time of 5:40am but it was definately worth it! We flew on a seaplane from Broome to Talbot Bay where the falls are. Mid morning we flew over the Buccaneer Archipelago to One Arm Point and then transported by a 4WD bus to Kooljaman, Cape Leveque for lunch. After lunch we made our way back through the Cape. A magic day! Take a look 🙂

It’s been a busy week here, but like gypsies, we must move on…

I’ll keep writing to a minimum and give you links to places so it’s easy reference for you to look up if you’re interested in a particular location.

As we’re travelling around Australia for X amount of months, I’ll keep the Hump Day Post (HDP) (on Wednesdays) for our journey and will continue to take part in the Weekly Photo Challenge (on Saturdays) – where possible. I’ll repeat this every week, just in case you’ve just joined me 🙂

About Retired2Travel

My passion has been for many, many years landscape photography so when the chance came up to retire early, in order to travel, I took it! It made sense then to marry the two (travel and photography) and create this blog. I hope you enjoy it :)

  1. Okay, I am duly impressed both with the places you are visiting and the photographs. Wow – gorgeous. I wish I could think of a bigger, better adjective because your views are spectacular. Love the header too. 🙂
