WPC: Eye Spy

For this week’s challenge, Michelle has asked us to, ‘Take “eye” as your inspiration.’

They often say we can take a bird’s-eye view of places by going high up or even on a flight, so this week I chose the pelican for its ‘eye‘, ability to fly and land with such grace.

Hervey Bay, QLD 29 Sept 2015, (26 of 45) September 201529

A few facts about Pelicans:

They have a  wingspan of five meters, so that they are able to fly up to an altitude of 3,000 meters. They live on every continent except Antarctica. There are eight species of pelicans, most live in warm regions, mainly near the coast and estuaries.

They eat fish, tadpoles, crustaceans and sometimes even turtles and after catching prey, pelican pushes water to the sides, and then moves the food into the throat and swallows it!

My header this month is reflective of the summer down under and the snow flakes are just perfect for cooling us down. 🙂

About Retired2Travel

My passion has been for many, many years landscape photography so when the chance came up to retire early, in order to travel, I took it! It made sense then to marry the two (travel and photography) and create this blog. I hope you enjoy it :)

  1. What a fantastic ‘Eye Spy’ photo Sonia, quite simply brilliant!!! 🙂

  2. Love pelicans. If you need a chuckle, picture years ago I’m standing on a Florida dock while vacationing watching them land nearby. So much fun. I’m with my husband, college-aged daughter and her new boyfriend. While busy watching, I take a step, fall off the dock and into a boat tied up at the dock. My body and my ego were certain bruised. LOL Love the header with the snow. 🙂

    • Oh Judy, I don’t know about laughing, I’m surprised you were just bruised! Yes, the heat has arrived down under and the snow flakes just cools me off – albeit just mentally 🙂
