This week Lignum Draco ask us to ‘think about time and portray it photographically.‘
This is a tricky one and it’s been on my mind all day. This evening, opening one of my drawers I saw this photo…
It’s me as a toddler!
Taking a close look, I seem sad and that made me sad. What could possibly had gone through my mind at that tender age? Did I get an inkling of what lied ahead?
If I could go back in time what would I say to my child self to prepare her for her life’s journey?
‘Life is going to challenge you, learn to take it in your stride but don’t take things personally’
‘Your surrounding family will go far, far away but you’ll learn to adapt.’
‘Your Dad will go to a foreign land without his family for five years but you’ll get to see him again.’
‘You will leave all that you know and go to a cold place where you don’t know anyone or the language spoken. It will seem like you’ve gone deaf and dumb overnight but you’re strong and you’ll conquer it.’
‘You’ll make an error of judgement with your first husband and raise your daughters almost alone but their love will keep you going.’
‘Roles will be reversed with your parents at a young age and you’ll become their parent. It won’t be easy, but you’ll get there.’
‘You’ll get time to look after you, later in life and you’ll find your prince charming!’
‘But hang in there, little one, be strong, because at the end of all that, you’re going to walk in sunshine! Your daughters love will multiply. Your grandchildren’s love will make your heart swell so big, you’ll think it’s going to burst.’
‘Smile, sweetheart. Life IS good!’
